October 22: TB Assessment at Tice Creek School 2-4pm
October 30: Halloween Parade, 8:30am
Principal's Message
Happy Wednesday Parkmead!
What a great time to be a sports fan in the California! The Valkeries are going to the WNBA Finals in their 2nd year of existence, the 49ers are 5-0 and the Warriors season is just a week away. Oh and the Giants... well, pitchers and catchers report in 150 days... What is also exciting about being in California is the annual "Great Shakeout!"
Yes, we know that California is known for their earthquakes and because of that, we like to be prepared. Every year on October 15th at 10:15a, schools across the country participate in an earthquake drill called "The Great Shakeout." This is our chance to practice what to do in the event of an earthquake, which includes dropping, finding cover, and waiting for things to stop shaking or waiting for the "all clear."
In the event of a true emergency, please know that Parkmead and all other Walnut Creek Schools have protocols to ensure students, staff and community members are safe and informed. Families will be notified to ensure communication is clear and everyone is up to date with any and all information they need to know.
While these emergency drills can sometimes be scary, we make it well known that we are just practicing and we are not in any danger. These drills provide us opportunities to practice what happens in an emergency so we are prepared.
We will have two more walk in clinics for TB screenings at Tice Creek School on the following dates:
10/22 from 2p-4p
11/19 from 2p-4p
All families are welcome to get cleared and there is no charge for this service.
English Learner Advisory Committee
English Language Advisory Committee Information
The rich diversity of our Parkmead community is one of our greatest strengths, and we are so proud that many of our students are emerging bilinguals.
This year, we are going to hold ELAC (English Learner Advisory Committee) meetings to gather as parents, caregivers, and staff to discuss programs, learning plans, and support for our multilingual students. We would love family feedback to ensure these meetings serve the needs of our community. Please take a moment to complete this brief voluntary ELAC Planning Survey to assist us with planning.
Thank you for your partnership and support in making this a wonderful year for our students!
ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE
Parkmead’s annual food drive begins October 14!! Our leadership students are excited to partner with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano to support local families in our community.
Food collection barrels will be available at school beginning October 14 and will be picked up on December 16, giving our families plenty of time to participate.
Some of the most-needed items include peanut butter, canned tuna and chicken, canned soups and vegetables, macaroni and cheese, canned fruit, shelf-stable milk, cereal, crackers, rice, applesauce, beans, pasta, and 100% fruit juice.
Every donation makes a difference, and we appreciate any contributions your family is able to make. Please see the attached flyer for more information!
Thank you for helping us make a positive impact in our community!
