Smartphone Safety Night at WCI

Smartphone Safty Night

In partnership with the WCI PTA, we invite our families to join us for a Parent Information Night focused on smartphone safety, social media, and emerging technology trends impacting middle school students.

  • Date: Tuesday, March 24
  • Time: 6:30 PM
  • Location: WCI Squire Hall

This session will feature expert presenters Darryl Holcombe from the Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office and Tyler Bertolozzi from the Walnut Creek Police Department. Together, they will share insights from both law enforcement and community perspectives.

Topics we will cover include:
  • Current law-enforcement trends related to smartphone safety
  • Generative AI and chatbots—what parents should know
  • Sextortion and online exploitation
  • Social media, algorithms, and their impact on student mental health
  • How families can create sensible guidelines, rules, and restrictions around smartphone use
We will also leave ample time at the end of the evening for questions and discussion.

This is a parent-only event intended for our current middle school families, and we are also extending the invitation to incoming 5th-grade families.

We hope you’ll join us for this important and timely conversation.
